Home battery warranty, explained.

Last updated 2 October 2026

Battery warranties aren't all written the same way. Here's what the common terms actually mean.

Years

The length of time the warranty covers, regardless of how much the battery has actually been used.

Cycles

A cap on how many full charge and discharge cycles are covered. Some warranties state this directly, others state an equivalent throughput figure instead.

Throughput

The total energy (in MWh) the battery is guaranteed to deliver over its life, an alternative way of capping warranty cover without stating a specific cycle count.

Retained capacity

The minimum percentage of original capacity guaranteed at the end of the warranty period, for example 70%. The battery doesn't stop working once it reaches that point, it just isn't guaranteed to hold more than that.

Published warranty by model

As stated in each manufacturer's own published specs. Not every manufacturer publishes a warranty figure for every model, shown as not published rather than guessed.

Common questions

Does the battery warranty cover installation?+

That's between you and your installer, not the battery manufacturer. The manufacturer's warranty covers the battery itself; installation workmanship is typically covered separately by the installer.

What happens if a warranty term isn't published?+

Some manufacturers haven't published a specific figure for every model. Ask your installer to confirm the current warranty directly with the manufacturer before you buy, rather than assuming a figure that isn't stated.
