How the rebate works

Your installer applies it as a discount on your quote. You don't apply for anything.

The amount depends on battery size, install date and the current certificate price, so treat this as an estimate.

Good to know

  • Most people assign the rebate to their installer for an upfront discount, but some installers pay it after installation instead.
  • You can choose to claim it yourself instead of assigning it to your installer.
  • Installers may deduct admin fees before passing the discount on — ask for it itemised on your quote.
How's this calculated? ▾

The federal battery rebate is delivered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), not as a simple cash discount. Your final benefit depends on:

  • eligible battery capacity
  • installation date
  • the applicable STC factor
  • the market value of STCs (estimated at $39/certificate as of 30 Sept 2026, factor 6.8)
  • whether the system and installer meet the program requirements

The rebate isn't the price.

A rebate estimate doesn't tell you what the battery will actually cost.

Battery + inverter + installation − rebate = your installed price

BatteryMe can work that out using real installer pricing.

Common questions

Is the battery rebate reduced in 2026?+

Not during 2026 itself. The federal rebate factor has been steady since 1 May 2026 and stays that way for the rest of the year. The next reduction is on 1 January 2027, when the factor drops from 6.8 to 5.7.

Do I need to apply for the rebate myself?+

No. Your installer applies it as a discount on your quote, so you don't apply for anything. You can also choose to claim it yourself instead of assigning it to your installer.

Why is the rebate shown here an estimate?+

The amount depends on your battery size, install date and the current certificate price, so it can move until your installer locks in a firm quote.

Can installers deduct fees from the rebate?+

Some installers deduct admin fees before passing the discount on, so ask for it itemised on your quote.
